Getting to know the Area

Soldiers visit us from all over the country and many are curious to know what Panama City Beach has to offer. It has so much to offer it is hard to pick a place to start. I guess I will start with the weather and environment.

The area is steeped in southern hospitality and envelops you with emerald waters, sparkling white sand beaches, gorgeous weather and warmth. Did you know that Panama City Beach had an average of 320 sunny days per year? The weather here is sub-tropical averaging 74 degrees year-round.

Our famous white sand beaches are said to originate from quartz crystals washing down from the Appalachian Mountains 100s of years ago. As they made their way here the crystals were ground to powder, smoothed and polished. The surf and tides of the Gulf of Mexico than deposited these sugar like particles unto our shoreline.

Panama city is surrounded on either side by beautiful state parks. On once side is the St. Andrews State Park and on the other Camp Helen. Our St. Andrews State Park is known as the #2 Beach in America according to Trip Advisor. This park boasts of 1,260 acres of forests, dunes, marshes, lagoon swimming area, beach, and camping. It was originally opened in 1951 and actually served as a WWII Military Reservation.

A fascinating nickname for the city is Wreck Capital of the South. This nickname is from the large quantity of historic wrecks that scuba divers love to explore. Scuba divers also enjoy the 50 artificial reef and the natural refs that are teeming with colorful sea life.

Here we have the country’s largest sport fishing fleets and the largest concentration of bottlenose dolphins in the world! It is a fisherman’s paradise and you will love the multiple varieties found in the waters. Frequent catches include Blue Marlin, Mackerel, Red snapper, Cobia, Trout, and many others.

There are plenty of attractions in the area suitable for all tastes. We have deep sea fishing, golf, spa day (for ladies), amusement parks or relax on white sandy beaches. But don’t worry. We will provide you with activities for the best 7 day vacation you’ve ever had!
